Magic Johnson,
A Perfect Example of Supportive Parents
If you are senior fan of Los Angeles Lakers, you may not miss a recent Ellen DeGeneres'afternoon talk show, because the former Lakers point guard and NBA legend Magic Johnson appeared in the show. If you are one of LGBT members and you wish your parents may receipt and respect to your gender, you may not miss the show.
It is the first time that Magic Johnson talked about his son EJ's coming out, and how it's important for parents of queer children to love and be there for their children.
"...I think it’s all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become. It’s all about loving them no matter who they are or what they decide to do," Johnson told DeGeneres. "When my son came out, I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents. We love him and EJ is amazing."
He continued: "You’ve got to support your child because there’s so many people who will try to discriminate against them, so they need you to support them. If you don’t support them, who will?"
When heard this, tears full of my eye. Although we come out, we are still someone's children. We love our family and we also need our family to support us because admitting our gender and coming out need large quantities of courage. And the support of our parents gives us those courage. I am bi and I am fortune to have such parents. They are my harbor no matter what comment others give on me. With their support I gradually ignore others' strange sights.
